Peter van Straaten is one of the most popular cartoonists
in Holland and frequently uses the everyday life as a theme. In these
cartoons all comical and tragical elements of everyday life can be found.
In October 2006 museum Kunsthal in Rotterdam opened an exhibition on Van
Straaten's latest erotic drawings. Spring 2007 the exhibition travels
to the Musée de l'érotisme in Paris. The book Lust
accompagnies both exhibitions. It consists more than 50 'fairy tales for
adults'. Absurd scenes where people make love in the public space, on
the platform, in a park, during a reception, in the pub, on the pier and
on top of the billiard table. Peter van Straaten: 'Consider that it releases
the pressure of an old man. The truth is that in my whole life I never
picked up a woman. I even don't have the courage to approach them in public'.
Peter van Straaten is an artist and writer, living in Amsterdam. He wrote a serial called Agnes for the weekly Vrij Nederland and his drawings are published in numerous papers as in the daily Het Parool, the weekly Vrij Nederland, the Belgian daily De Morgen and several other magazines.
