John Calder was for the last 60 years publisher of leading 20th century serious writers including Beckett, Robbe-Grillet, Ionesco, Pirandello, Yevtushenko, Böll and Henry Miller. He is himself a writer of fiction, poetry, criticism and memoirs, but also an artist whose "shapes" are a form of visual poetry emphasising mental connections and poetic symbolism.
